Humanity is in a state of crisis. There are continual
threats of terrorism, civil wars in many countries, and grave
conflicts among nations of the world. In addition, environmental
pollution resulting in global warming has caused horrific floods that
killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Our world is facing
constant instability.
In an effort to find solutions for the crises world facing
today and especially for the application of Buddhism in Vietnam, we
cordially invite you as well as the honorable members of the Sangha,
friends of virtue and wisdom, to contribute your valuable opinions at
our conference themed: “Buddhism in the New Era: Chances and
Challenges,” which will be held from Saturday to Sunday, July
15th and 16th, 2006 at the Vietnamese Buddhist
Research Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

GENERAL INFORMATION
FOR PARTICIPANTS
I. Purpose of
Conference:
- To introduce intellectual
activities and discuss cooperative methods between the Sangha and lay
community members in Vietnam and abroad in regards to current global
crises that interest national and Buddhist leaders of the world.
- To bring together
Buddhists and friends from different areas of specialties to
support one another in order to discuss in a scientific manner
Buddhist issues in
Vietnam and the world.
- To coordinate in a
systematic manner the intellectual contributions of participants on
the issues concerning Buddhism in general and Vietnamese Buddhism in
particular in the new era.
II. Main Themes:
Chances and Challenges to World Buddhism in the Globalization Era
The conference
invites discussion of the Chances and challenges facing Buddhism in
response to the world’s needs. Based on this theme, the conference
will determine the moral, social, and spiritual roles of Buddhism and
its contribution to the efforts of solving the current global issues
such as wars, terrorism, environmental pollution, and other social
evils.
Chances and Challenges of Vietnamese Buddhism in its own Environment
The conference
invites discussion on the roles of Vietnamese Buddhism in the present
as well as its role in the new era. Based on the analysis and
assessment of the successes and failures and the Chances and
challenges that Vietnamese Buddhism faced today, the conference will
propose practical directions for the application of Buddhist teachings
into human daily life, secular and spiritual.
III. Suggestions
and Guidelines for the Conference Papers:
The participants may choose their topics pertaining
to the above main themes. Kindly please send title(s) of the topics
to the Vietnamese Buddhist Research Institute via e-mail at:

thichnhattu@yahoo.com before
February 29, 2006.
Participants may submit more than one research
papers but only one paper will be presented in the conference. In the
event that identical papers are submitted or papers not directly
consistent to the themes of the conference are received, the
organizing committee will notify the authors and request new topics.
Please submit your complete papers and its abstracts
to the Vietnamese Buddhist Research Institute no later than May 30th,
2006. The conference papers need to be contributing valuable findings
and practical applications to a spirit of positive construction.
For Vietnamese participants, the paper can be
written in Vietnamese using any kind of font, however, Unicode is
preferred. For foreign participants, the paper can be written in
English or French or Chinese.
IV. Other needed
Information
Dates, Venue, and General Schedule:
The conference “Buddhism in the New Era: Chances and
Challenges” will be held from from Saturday to Sunday, July 15th
and 16th, 2006 at Vietnamese Buddhist Research Institute in
Ho Chi Minh City,
Vietnam. You will receive a detailed agenda with information on the
location and starting time of sessions and breaks, discussion topics
and speakers names and titles in your welcome packet when you
register.
Registration:
Registration and Welcoming Dinner will begin on
6PM until 8PM.
Participants will receive information about Conference Program and
name tags. The registration desk is located at the entrance of
the Auditorium, on the 1st floor outside of the Auditorium of the
Institute.
Hotel Accommodations:
All invited guests are to be stayed at Hotel. Vietnam Buddhist
Research Institute will bear the cost of the hotel accommodations for
our VIP guest sonly. The cost of extra member’s hotel rooms,
breakfast and taxes will be on their on account and thus paid directly
by themselves. All guests are responsible for any additional hotel
charges, such as telephone calls, laundry service, minibar, internet,
room service (including meals and beverages), etc. Self-pay
participants and observers are fully responsible for their hotel
accommodation and must pay their hotel charges directly.
Air Transportation:
The Vietnam Buddhist Research Institute is supporting the air
transportation of our VIP guests. Other guests and visitors
are responsible for their own air transportation.
Airport Transportation to Hotel:
The Hotel is located about 20 minutes drive from the
Tan Son Nhat International
Airport. After you obtain your luggage and go through customs, a
member of Vietnam Buddhist Research Institute officers will direct you
to either a chartered bus or car services that will be transferring
participants from the airport to the Hotel. Please revert your flight
information to
thichnhattu@yahoo.com All delegates are advised not to allow
strangers to take you to the hotel.
Meals:
Breakfast will be provided by the hotel during you stay there.
Buffet lunches and dinner will be provided for delegates through the
complementary stay. There will be a welcome reception on Friday
evening July 14, and a farewell party on Sunday July 16, respectively.
